January 2008 Progress Report

Have a set schedule for my writing time.
Kinda sorta. Since my weekdays are already tightly scheduled, the
only way for me to designate officially scheduled Writing Time is to
carve it out in the single digit hours of weekend mornings. For
the most part I don't mind the alarm going off at 5 on Saturdays and
Sundays, but I have to admit to having turned it off a couple of times
this month. Five a.m. just seems so weekdayish.
Get organized about the arrival of The Pout-Pout Fish.
Eh, not so much. I did spend a goodly (and enjoyable) chunk of
time working on my CWIM interview piece, which counts as book-related.
But as for the long overdue sit-down with myself to get
thoroughly organized for the
what-once-seemed-ages-off-but-is-now-just-around-the-corner launch of
Mr. Fish: no, I didn't. This is my #1 Feb project.
Put myself on a
regular schedule for updating my web site.
I didn't put a regular schedule on paper (January is a particularly
busy job-work month for me, so trying to regularly schedule anything is
a challenge), but I did find some odd moments to do some news updates
and to add my Mugs section. The Kids area is in definite need of
new material, so I'll work on that in February.
Go through
my pile of notebooks and sort/organize what’s in them.
Nope. Didn't even spend any time thinking
about doing this. Might not until the stack of notebooks falls
over and buries me. By then, sadly, too late: another
writer done in by her drafts. What a sad, sad story.
Work on a regular basis on the following writing
projects:
- Grand Canyon.
Thought a fair bit about this novel, and I already know the
direction I want to take the revision in, but I keep waiting for a big
chunk of time to work on it. However, there are no Big,
Unscheduled Chunks of Time in my life; so I guess I'd better just do
something rather than nothing. This is my #2 Feb project.
- Face It. Worked on
this a fair amount. I wouldn't go so far as to say I went great
gangbusters on it, but I did get some time with the ol' pen on this.
- One picture book manuscript per month.
Inspired by an idea from one of my kids, I wrote a first draft of a
new, rhyming picture book. Will take it to critique group in
March and see what the reaction is. I kinda like it, but it's a
little quiet (written from my sentimental side, not my zany side).
- Moms Rock lyric parodies. Didn't work on these at all.
Do a crossword puzzle
daily.
Did this for a while at the beginning of the month, but not during the
second half. Might do one after I finish this report. Or at
least all the acrosses.
Try to stay on top of my email.
Ha. Yeah, right. Maybe next month. Maybe next life....
Make it to 80% of critique group sessions.
Attended in January, so that's 100% so far. Off to a good start.
